AP: Worked through an extensive curve sketching problem. Packet due date extended to Thursday. Starting Integration on Thursday in class (very important lesson). Lecture notes
Honors: Introduced related rates. Multi step process hand out here .
Homework (Due Friday) p 149: 12-28
Tuesday
AP: Optimization lesson. Worked several examples and handed out step-by-step procedure for problem solving. Had some time to practice setting up and solving such problems. The classic problem is the box problem; just remember to justify that the critical values you find are indeed maximums or minimums (use a sign chart and a sentence to explain). Lecture notes
Homework: More time to work on curve sketching.
Wednesday
AP: In DS, worked through a more complicated optimization problem involving the cost of laying cable on land vs underwater. Notes
Honors: Worked some more on test corrections. Discussed real-life applications of math. Continued on related rates, including the classic falling ladder problem. Lecture notes
Hw: Same as Monday's.
Thursday
AP: Beginning integration. Emphasized difference between definite and indefinite integrals (definite is over an interval and can be used to find area; indefinite integral is a mathematical tool to find the anti-derivative). Handed out Derivatives and Integrals "Cheat Sheet". Lecture notes
Homework (Due Tues): p. 249: 15-34
Friday
No class due to snow.
