Classes did not really meet, since the seniors were at their retreat, soooo.....
Tuesday
AP: lecture notes (to attach later); discussed trig limits using the special case of sinx/x; began discussion on tangent lines, slopes, functions that compute slopes (the derivative), and concavity (concave up, concave down). Areas where tangent lines were difficult draw were highlighted for their special significance, and we noted that all our generic graphs were continuous functions, despite some having slopes that were hard to characterize. Preview of coming events,
Understanding concave up and down (the rate at which the rate of change, changes)
Homework: none :)
Wednesday
AP DS: Brief review of concavity; appreciated calculus as human ingenuity through a video on its history.
Honors: Test announced for next Wednesday. Homework review on asymptotes and infinite limits.
Hw: p 89: #31-36 (omit 32), 47-48, 51-62 (skip 52)
Thursday
AP: Very important lesson on the definition of the derivative and its foundations as a limit operation. Lecture notes
More info/links to applets to follow.
Homework: p. 103: #11-24, 71-80
Friday
AP: Practicing with an application of the limit definition of the derivative dealing with water volume in a tank.
Honors: Finishing the practice test; handed out study guide, available here
Homework: Finish study guide problems for Monday
